Q: I’m thinking about starting a blog. Should I be using Google’s Blogger or Wordpress?
A: A business blog is one more medium to deliver brand’s message. Sometimes, if a blog doubles up as a website, this will be THE most important medium. With this in mind, regardless of your or your client’s choice, the blog should be self-hosted (meaning its URL will be something like www.yourbusinessname.com/blog, not yourbusinessname.blogspot.com or yourbusinessname.wordpress.com ). It looks more professional and you can do a lot more with a self-hosted blog.
Now back to the blog’s purpose. If you are looking for an easy-to-maintain, very budget-friendly solution and do not require much customization, then Blogger might be a good choice. It comes AdSense-ready and is perfect for those of us who are very non-technical.
But if you are serious about blogging and, especially, building your authority and revenew through blogging, you really have only one choice so far – Wordpress.org, the self-hosted Wordpress blog. Here are some of the reasons:
- lots of support – forums, Codex, Wordpress designers, etc.
- plenty of free and premium fully-customizable templates
- thousands of plugins, including plugins vital to any money-making blog such as AdSense plugins, SEO and tagging ones, etc
- categories – sure, Blogger allows you to label your posts, but Wordpress allows in-post tags as well as assigning posts to different categories
- scheduled publishing – finish your draft, schedule it to publish on a particular date, and take a vacation
these are just a few features that make Wordpress so powerful. If you are still uncertain, check out these 34 reasons to use Wordpress.
