Twitter – What Can I Say (that would help my business)?

Q: I only tweet once or twice a day, but I am quickly running out of things to say. I don’t want to talk about my personal life or family, but I just don’t have much else to say. Any ideas?

A: Just a couple of short , under 140 characters, updates a day doesn’t sound like a lot of work. That’s until you learn all the “shouldn’t”s – shouldn’t be talking about yourself all the time, shouldn’t be trivial, boring, irrelevant, etc.

Do you approach each of your status updates as if your entire business hinges on it? Does your quest for valuable followers-winning one-liners stifle your conversation? If yes, ask yourself what’s more important – to write as if for Pulitzer Prize or to keep the conversation going. After all, that’s the whole point of Twitter – to have a two-way conversation, not a series of announcements (no matter how great they are).

To break the Twitter block, try doing this:

  1. Read through and reply to tweets of the people you follow;
  2. Re-tweet the ones you really like;
  3. Recommend products and services you use and like;
  4. Mention and link to a friend’s, colleague’s, client’s blog post or article;
  5. Tweet about upcoming events in your niche.

Here are some more ideas to keep you a-twitter.
