How to Track Twitter Results

Q: I’ve started using Twitter for my business. Now I just need to figure out how to track the results.
A: The big question is does Twitter really pay off in terms of ROI? Or is it just another time-waster? Surprisingly, many people I talk to who tweet regularly have no idea of whether their sites get increased traffic as a result of using Twitter. Not like this problem of ROI tracking is unique to Twitter. So I am glad to share an article on how to track Twitter ROI.
You will need just three tools to start analyzing results of your tweets (and you are probably very familiar with at least 2 of them):
- Google Analytics (hey, it’s pretty good and best of all free!)
- One of the avaiable url shorteners like Tweetburner (You can use any of these services, not just Tweetburner. The trick is to pick one that integrates well with the Twitter client you use. I’m using Tweetburner because it’s what my friend already used and because it works well with his twhirl Twitter Desktop Client.
- A little magic that was intended for Adwords advertisers, but can be used by anyone with a Google Analytics (GoAn) account.
You’ll have to read the rest of Randy’s how-to Twitter tracking article (or if you are pressed for time, at least the 7 steps to setting up Twitter tracking – at the bottom of his post).
