Are You Ready for the New Year?
I am one of those people that have to “get ready for the New Year” – writing down lessons learned in the past year and goals for the new one. It used to be very easy to do a few years back when I used the Fortune Cookie method. I simply wrote all my wishes on little slips of paper and put them under my pillow. The first thing in the morning on January 1 I would reach under my pillow, get one of the slips and then spend the next year waiting for the wish to come true.
The drawback of the Fortune Cookie method was that it allowed only one of my many wishes to come true. The others just had to wait for the next year. So then I came up with a Tinker Bell Upgrade – writing down the same wishes on one piece of paper and then saying them out loud during the New Year countdown (the last 10 seconds of it).
Fortunately, I grew up and graduated to some more effective methods of getting ready for the New Year. I was going to talk about that, but the folks at LifeHacker beat me to it and posted an article on planning for the New Year.
This being said, I am taking off what’s left of this year (but you can still chat with me on Twitter). I plan on spending the final couple of weeks reflecting on and learning from 2009 and planning and organizing for 2010. Lots of stuff coming up next year, so stay tuned!
Happy Holidays!
